Local Fork Guide to Baltimore

Welcome to the Local Fork Guide to Baltimore!

The Local Fork Guide lists food that is grown or produced, and available for purchase, locally.  Everyone's definition of "local" is different. Here are the parameters we're using for the Guide:

  • Local Food is grown or produced within a 250-mile radius of Baltimore. Some non-local ingredients are okay; for instance, many bakeries have a hard time sourcing large quantities of local flour.  We think that if they're making an effort to use local fruit, eggs, butter, etc., they deserve to be mentioned in the Guide.  If you're a strict locavore and have specific questions about the origins of each ingredient, feel free to contact the producer directly.

  • Local Food is available for purchase within a 50-mile radius of Baltimore. This narrows the field a little and rewards producers and farmers who are keeping their operations efficient by selling to markets and stores.  It also ensures that you won't have to do a lot of driving to make a difference by giving your business to the local food community.

We started the Guide because we believe the whole community knows more about local food than any individual person.  But that philosophy only works if individual people share their knowledge!  Tell us about your favorite local farms and foods by e-mailing baltimore@localfork.com, and check back often, because we're constantly adding new products and sources.

Happy eating!
