NYC Food Budget??

I try and shop most organic and local and feel that it is really important. Looking at my food budget for the last year though I can't believe how much money my husband and I spend on food. I was looking for some feedback on this issue because I feel really strongly about supporting this movement for our own health and for the health of local farmers and the environment but at the same time I can't spend everything I make on food. On average what so most people spend on food per week on per month? WHat are some tips on eating well and budgeting at the same time? Thanks!!
