The Locavore's Guide to New York City

Welcome to the Locavore's Guide to New York City!

Here you can find out what is produced locally, where you can get it and when. Want locally grown popcorn for movie night? No problem. Butter from local cows? You got it. You’ll also be able to check exactly how far each ingredient travels to get from the farm to our city.

The Guide is meant to be a resource for anyone living in New York City who would like to eat locally grown and raised ingredients. It began when I decided to do a year-long local food challenge, eating almost exclusively what is produced within 250 miles of NYC. I found myself spending a lot of time tracking down local sources of pantry staples such as flour and vinegar, not to mention trying to keep track of which farm had which products at which farmers market on which days. I started carrying around a notebook to jot down all that info, and that notebook has grown into The Locavore's Guide to NYC.

The Guide is a work in progress and just getting started, so check back often because I’ll be adding products and sources every week.
